Mobility Vans: What You Should Know

Mobility vans are an excellent option for families and individuals with a loved one who has serious mobility limitations. They can be customized to fit your unique needs, and they come with a range of different options. If you’re interested in learning more about mobility vans, read on to learn what they are, how they work, and what they can do to help you!

Mobility vans have been designed to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities. These vehicles have special features such as extra-wide doors, wheelchair lifts, or ramps that make it easier for someone to easily get in or out of the van. They also offer larger seating areas, so there’s plenty of room for family members or caregivers who need assistance transporting their loved ones. In addition, mobility vans offer all the amenities of a regular vehicle, including air conditioning and heating, radio, backup cameras, and more.

The key difference between mobility vans and regular vehicles is that mobility vans feature a lowered floor and a ramp to allow for easy access for passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. In addition to the ramp, most mobility vans also include:

  • Wheelchair tie-downs.
  • Extra headroom (to accommodate a seated passenger).
  • Enough space to store multiple wheelchairs.

The steering wheel and other controls are moved in a mobility van so that they can be reached by the person using a wheelchair. Buttons are also added to help lift and lower wheelchair ramps and open and close doors.

Mobility vans come in different types. The most common types are as follows: minivans, side-entry, and rear-entry vans.

Minivans are more compact, stylish, and simple to drive. Depending on the vehicle’s manufacturer, you can also have them customized with numerous options and even luxury features like leather seats.

Side-entry van is a lowered-floor alteration that provides extra headroom for a wheelchair user to enter the car easily. Side-entry vans usually include removable front seats, allowing the wheelchair user to sit in the front passenger seat or even drive the van. In addition, they can accommodate both foldout ramps and lifts and the in-floor ramp, and a center cut conversion for the side-entry is also available.

On the other hand, a foldout ramp and a lowered center cut area for the wheelchair is included in the rear-entry wheelchair accessible vehicle. This provides additional inside room, allowing larger wheelchairs to be accommodated. The wheelchair, on the other hand, is unable to reach the front seat positions, preventing them from driving or riding in the front seat. Side-entry vans require a wide handicap space to accommodate the side ramp, but rear-entry vans can fit into any length of a parking area, including standard width spaces.

Mobility vans are the perfect choice if you’re looking for something comfortable, dependable way to go around. You don’t have to worry about your wheelchair becoming uncomfortable or losing power with a mobility van. You can count on your mobility van to be ready when you need it and able to go wherever you want to go.

Looking for an ultimate way to travel– with a lot of freedom? Mobility vans are here for you! Whether you use a wheelchair or just have trouble getting around on your own, mobility vans are here to give you a solution. Most mobility vans feature a raised roof that allows passengers more space inside the vehicle. Some models even include space for two passengers in wheelchairs and several seats for additional passengers. Several manufacturers offer new and used mobility van options to fit your budget.

Whether you’re taking a trip across the country or just running errands around town, mobility vans have got you covered. It’s time to take back your freedom!
