Significance of Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi is celebrated to honor the bond of sister and brother. There are various historical stories related to signify the protection a brother assures to a sister. Krishna protected her honor by making her saree continual while Kauravas undressed her.
The second story linked with Rakhi refers to Alexandar’s wife tying Rakhi on a Hindu king Purushottam’s hand to protect her husband. Similarly, Rani Karnavati, the Queen of Chittor, sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun to seek help to protect her from Bahadur Shah when he invaded Chittor’s kingdom.
