Do you know that Sheet and Plate, both are different? I am asking this question because people generally get confused in both of these terms. Some people think that there is no difference between sheet and plate. And, some people know that both are different things, but they don’t know what is the difference between them exactly. But don’t worry, you don’t need to get confused with this concept. Below I have explained the difference between them in a comprehensive way. Let’s start…
First of all, let me define both of these two terms:
Sheet: Sheet is a piece of metal (with any size) that has a thickness of less than 3 mm. It may be of any metal like steel, aluminum, copper, etc. The metal selection depends on the application for which it is to be used.
Plate: Plate is a piece of metal (with any size) that has a thickness of more than 3 mm. It may also be of any metal like steel, aluminum, etc. The metal selection depends on the application for which it is to be used.
Difference Between Sheet and Plate
The most important difference between Plate and Sheet can be justified by the points mentioned below:
- The thickness of sheet metal is less than 3 mm and on the other hand, the thickness of the plate is more than 3 mm.
- The plates are used in machines, structural sections, aviation industry, etc. And on the other hand, sheet metal is used in producing enclosures, home appliances, etc.
